Churros - Yummy!

Last time I had one of these, it was at the California State Fair...ohhh...so good!!
Now...I can make my own!

Ingredients You Will Need:

1 cup water
2 tablespoons sugar
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup white flour
2 eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
2 cups powdered sugar

Use a medium heavy-bottomed saucepan to boil the water, sugar and salt. Once the mixture comes to a rolling boil, remove it from the heat, and immediately begin to whisk in the flour. Stirring constantly, mix until well blended. Add the two eggs and continue beating until the mixture is smooth and consistent. Generally this mixture is then spooned into a pastry bag with a star tip, and the churros are piped out in four-inch lengths, which are later deep fried.

For this recipe, however, sprinkle one teaspoon of cinnamon and one teaspoon of nutmeg into the flour mixture. Mix until well blended, and then scoop the mixture into a pastry bag with a half-inch opening. Pipe the churros onto waxed paper, but, instead of making short lines, make alphabet letters, or, if using this as a birthday dessert, make numbers.

Heat the deep fryer to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and then deep fry two or three letters or numbers at a time. Deep fry each about four minutes or until nicely browned. Drain the letters on a paper towel. Meanwhile, place the powdered sugar in a plastic bag. After the letters have drained, place one at a time into the bag and shake gently to coat. (If you find your letters don't hold up well to the shaking, lay them on a plate and sift powdered sugar over them, instead.) Serve hot or cold. Delicious either way!
